There’s a lot happening across New Mexico’s housing industry, and NMHBA continues to work on initiatives that support homebuilders, homebuyers, and communities throughout the state. From new affordability programs to housing advocacy and member resources, here are a few recent updates.
Helping Make New Homeownership More Attainable
NMHBA recently announced the NewHome Rate Advantage Program in partnership with Housing New Mexico/MFA. The program is designed to help qualified homebuyers reduce their mortgage interest rate when purchasing a newly constructed home.
For builders and buyers alike, the program provides another resource for addressing financing costs and expanding opportunities for new homeownership in New Mexico.
Working to Increase New Mexico’s Housing Supply
NMHBA is also helping lead the newly launched Housing Abundance Coalition, a cross-sector effort focused on increasing housing supply and improving affordability throughout New Mexico.
The Coalition brings together housing advocates, industry leaders, policymakers, employers, and communities to address issues affecting housing development, including permitting timelines, infrastructure, development costs, and regulatory barriers.
Connecting Housing and Economic Development
Housing was also part of the conversation at the recent New Mexico IDEA Summit / Governor’s Conference on Economic Development. Mackenzie Bishop, NMHBA Government Affairs Chair and owner of Abrazo Homes, discussed the connection between housing availability and issues such as workforce recruitment, business growth, and community development.
For New Mexico communities working to attract employers and support a growing workforce, access to housing remains an important part of the broader economic development conversation.
More Value for NMHBA Members
Along with advocacy and industry initiatives, NMHBA membership provides access to resources that can support member businesses and their employees. Current benefits include bonding and insurance resources through Turquoise Insurance Agency, as well as access to supplemental insurance options through Aflac.
From supporting homeownership opportunities to advocating for New Mexico’s housing industry and connecting members with useful resources, NMHBA continues to work on issues that matter to builders and communities across the state.
